Hawaii – A Polynesian Journey

In 2016, our most extravagant vacation was to the great islands of Hawaii. We spent about 4 days each on Oahu, Maui and Big Island. The Polynesian culture and design was so refreshing and today I am pleased to present all the places that ignited wonder and awe during the trip.

The Royal Hawaiian – Waikiki, Honolulu

The main entrance to the hotel has a porte-cochere, where we arrived in our red convertible (I kid you not) and were greeted with a fragrant orchid lei for me and a kukui nut lei for my husband –

The lobby opens up to the courtyard shrouded with lush greenery. The wraparound porch has natural and simplistic furniture, inspiring leisure. The characteristic bubblegum pink is seen throughout the structure.

These beautiful paintings in the lobby depict the colorful life of Hawaii in a bygone era when Polynesians were rulers of the oceans and islands –

Our suite’s balcony in Mailani Tower had sweeping vistas of the Pacific Ocean, beach and the pool dotted with hot pink umbrellas –

Iolani Palace –

The fabulous chandeliers –

Grand Wailea – Maui

The lobby areas are sprinkled with the delightful works of artist, Zhou Ling:

Lotus Garden Cottages – Volcano, Big Island

Lanai, an outdoor covered and fenced porch –

Ka Lae Coffee: Southernmost coffeeshop & orchid farm in the United States
